Description
A quick, hearty sandwich featuring seasoned beef patties topped with melted cheddar on toasted buns.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80 % lean)
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese (about 4 oz)
- 4 sturdy sandwich rolls or brioche buns
- split
- 2 tbsp butter
- softened (for toasting the buns)
- Optional toppings: lettuce
- tomato slices
- red onion
- pickles
- or a dollop of mayo
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Mix gently with your hands until just combined; over‑mixing can make the patties tough.,Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾‑inch thick, slightly larger than the bun diameter.
- Press a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.,Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium‑high heat.
- Add a drizzle of oil if needed, then cook the patties for 3‑4 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160 °F (71 °C).
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar on each patty and cover the pan to melt the cheese.,While the cheese melts, spread softened butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast them in a separate skillet or under a broiler until golden brown, about 1‑2 minutes.,Assemble the sandwich: place the cheesy beef patty on the bottom bun, add any optional toppings you like, then cap with the top bun.
- Serve immediately while the cheese is still melty.
