Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup melted butter or neutral oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- Maple glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 to 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 to 2 tbsp milk
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F (175C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan or line with parchment.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, vanilla, and maple syrup.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake 22-28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool completely.
- For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and salt until smooth.
- Pour or drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars. Let set before slicing.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature (or refrigerate for longer).
- For a dairy-free version, substitute plant-based milk and melted coconut oil or a neutral oil for the butter.
- To thicken the glaze, add more powdered sugar; to thin it, whisk in more milk a little at a time.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep bars tender and fluffy.
