Description

Southern-style smothered chicken simmered in a rich, creamy gravy and served over fluffy rice—pure comfort in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in chicken thighs
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Season and sear the chicken until golden brown.
  • Sauté onion and garlic, then stir in flour and spices.
  • Slowly whisk in broth and milk to form gravy.
  • Add rice and chicken back to pan; cover and simmer.
  • Cook until rice is tender and chicken is fully cooked.
  • Garnish and serve hot.

Notes

  • Bone-in thighs add more flavor, but you can substitute boneless.
  • For extra creaminess, add a splash of heavy cream.
  • This dish reheats well and is great for meal prep.
  • Use low-sodium broth to control salt levels.
  • Add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra veggies.
