Description

Protein Packed Shepherd’s Pie Soup is a creamy, comforting twist on a classic dish, loaded with seasoned beef or turkey, vegetables, and tender potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey (halal-friendly)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups beef or chicken bone broth
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 1 tsp halal-certified Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt, or to taste
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • 2 tbsp flour (for thickening)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook until browned.
  2. Add onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir well to coat.
  5. Pour in the bone broth and add potatoes, thyme, paprika, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Bring to a simmer and cook for 12–15 minutes, until potatoes are tender.
  7. Stir in peas, corn, and milk or cream. Simmer another 3–5 minutes until thick and creamy.
  8. Adjust seasoning as needed and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use beef or turkey, both work; halal-friendly option is noted.
  • For a thicker soup, increase the flour slightly or simmer longer.
  • To make this gluten-free, substitute the flour with a gluten-free thickener like cornstarch mixed with cold water.
  • For lighter calories, use skim milk or half-and-half instead of cream.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3–4 days and reheat gently.
