Description
Overnight Croissant Breakfast Casserole: Soft, rich, and cozy, this make-ahead brunch dish features flaky croissants soaking in a creamy custard with cheese and optional turkey bacon or halal sausage for festive holiday mornings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6–7 large croissants, torn into pieces
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk (or half-and-half for extra richness)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Gruyère
- 1 cup cooked turkey bacon or halal breakfast sausage (optional)
- 1 small onion, finely diced (optional)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp salt
- Fresh chives or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish and add the croissant pieces.
- If using turkey bacon or halal sausage, cook and crumble it. Add over the croissants.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the mixture evenly over the croissants.
- Sprinkle cheese over the top.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 4 hours) to let the croissants absorb the custard.
- When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake uncovered for 35–45 minutes until golden, set, and slightly puffed.
- Garnish with fresh chives or parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- For a lighter version, use skim milk or 2% milk instead of half-and-half.
- Omission of meat makes this a vegetarian-friendly option.
- You can prepare this casserole the night before and bake in the morning for a quick brunch.
- Let it rest for a few minutes after baking to set before slicing.
- You can customize with your favorite cheese or add sautéed vegetables for extra color.
