Description
Juicy, spiced chicken shawarma made at home with a simple marinade, fresh toppings, and creamy garlic yogurt sauce.
Ingredients
2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
3 tbsp Greek yogurt
1/4 cup olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp ground coriander
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
For serving: pita, tomato, red onion, lettuce, pickles, parsley
Garlic yogurt sauce: 1 cup Greek yogurt, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 2 garlic cloves, salt
Instructions
Mix marinade ingredients and coat chicken. Marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Cook in oven or grill for 25–30 minutes until done.
Rest and slice thinly.
Make garlic yogurt sauce by mixing all ingredients.
Assemble shawarma in pita with toppings and drizzle with sauce.
Notes
Marinate overnight for best flavor. Serve with warm pita or rice. Garlic sauce can be made ahead. Adjust spices to taste.
