- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
- 1 large egg
- ¾ cup milk (dairy-free if needed)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or melted coconut oil
- 6 halal hot dogs
- Gluten-free skewers or sticks
- High-heat oil for frying (like avocado or sunflower)
Instructions
- Pat hot dogs dry and insert skewers into each one. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, gluten-free flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and paprika.
- Add egg, milk, and oil. Stir until smooth and thick. Let batter rest for 5 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat (about 350°F/175°C).
- Dip each hot dog into the batter, coating completely.
- Carefully lower into the hot oil and fry 2–3 at a time for 3–4 minutes or until golden and crispy.
- Remove with tongs and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dip.

- For dairy-free version, use plant-based milk and oil.
- Let batter rest 5 minutes to hydrate the flour for better coating.
- Use gluten-free hot dogs and gluten-free sticks to keep the recipe gluten-free.
- Maintain frying oil at 350°F (175°C) for even crispiness.
