Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty, old-fashioned comfort dish featuring juicy seasoned beef patties baked in a savory onion gravy until bubbly.

- 2 lb ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup cooking cream
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown patties on both sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions until soft. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir well.
- Gradually add beef broth, cooking cream, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until thickened.
- Place hamburger patties in a baking dish and pour gravy and onions over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
- Let rest briefly before serving. Garnish if desired.
Notes
- For a richer gravy, simmer a few minutes longer before serving.
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, continue simmering until it reaches your desired consistency before adding to the dish.
- This dish can be assembled ahead of time; refrigerate and bake later (add 15-20 minutes to bake time if cold).
