Description

Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty, old-fashioned comfort dish featuring juicy seasoned beef patties baked in a savory onion gravy until bubbly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup cooking cream
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown patties on both sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions until soft. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir well.
  5. Gradually add beef broth, cooking cream, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until thickened.
  6. Place hamburger patties in a baking dish and pour gravy and onions over the top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
  8. Let rest briefly before serving. Garnish if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer gravy, simmer a few minutes longer before serving.
  • If you prefer a thicker gravy, continue simmering until it reaches your desired consistency before adding to the dish.
  • This dish can be assembled ahead of time; refrigerate and bake later (add 15-20 minutes to bake time if cold).
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
